Due to recent (and not so recent) changes in staffing, we are seeking an experienced PHP developer to help out around this place.

The hours are long, the pay sucks, and the admins here are constantly whining and complaining about the code you've written.

Hrm. That won't attract anyone, will it?

Seriously though. There isn't any pay. The payoff is that you get to become part of team that serves up ~1.3 Million pages per month, sending about 600GB of traffic out to its community members. You get to help us figure out ways to make this place pay for itself. You get to have your input on one of the best (it's the best in my opinion, though) Unreal series sites out there. You get to help us grow, possibly expand into other games, etc.

Is that more attractive?

Is it easy? Nope. We've got spaghetti for code currently, but, you can help make the decision on whether or not you want to rebuild from the ground up, or change/clean/tweak the current code. We want great things, and we've been keeping a list of things we want changed.

Are you up to it? Does this interest you? Can you make a commitment?

If so, then PM me, or you can post any questions in here.

Thanks!

As a semi-retired staffer, let me just say that if you can bring these skills and commitment to the task, you'll be part of something very special.

Going back to before it was even caled UP, this site has relied on the strengths of its volunteers.

Here's a great chance fo you to make an impact. And besides, Kinkster doesn't suck so bad once you get to know him.

Hmmm....

Geez I love to program things but the only problem is I don't even know the first thing about PHP! like what is it? even but I can do UScript for UT99 if it's anything like that at all which I doubt seriously. lol All I know is it has something to do with websites is all I know about PHP. I thought UP used what is called XML?. That shows how much I know.

I've tried to use HTML programs just to write an HTML web page one time but I really blow like the north wind at it. :(

This does sound like a very great way indeed to help UP besides donating money but not if you're clueless about even what PHP is.

Sorry guys. :(

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. The long hours thing could be a little issue, but I'll do my best. You and I discussed this once before, and I'm still interested in helping UP any way I can.

I can use echo and print commands, and write loops that don't recurse and hang the machine.
Not that I'll be a great deal of help, but if I could, I would!
By the time I can code properly in php you'll all be ready to retire, so maybe there'll be an opening then?
Unfortunately, I'm probably older than all of you lot, so maybe not :(

As a whole, I think the unreal community is tottaly split. Betweend different mods and maps, things get a little hectic. If you need a php developer that bad, ill help out. Just remember if you do want me to help, I've got a site to run too, so things might not get done on the dot. We need to bring this community back together, and im hoping that communication between unreal fansite admins, will help that bond.
