Alrite People, I have done a bit of UT mapping, but not a lot, and I thought thes best thing to do is to start mapping for U2/ UT2, as this is the future of the Unreal series and I don't want to stay in the past, I have played the beta of U2 and it looks amazing! I was wondering how I can get started, can anybody reccomend any sources of information on the web where I can get more info about mapping in u2 and UT2???
thanx in advance for any help given. ;)

Hi and welcome--
Ummm since there has been no release of a U2 "beta" yet, what is it you played? You do mean Unreal2 and NOT Unreal Tournament 2?

Well he must have the U2 preAlpha :tsk: .
Well since UT2k3 will be relying a good deal on prefabs, you might as well start learning a 3d software package like 3Dstudio Max or Milkshape. You could even go ahead and build stuff in those packages and have them ready for UT2k3. :D .
Hopefully you will be lucky enough to afford 3Dstudio max -:p
If the game is released at the end of july, this is not a long wait but IHopeToGodThatsMilk's right : you'll spend less time learning Max than working on aything else...
A demo is available here : http://www.discreet.com
Tuts also available at the same URL... ;)

if you want to be a quality mapper start accumulating some architecture (i still need to do this:rolleyes: ). Since i started UEd ive been keeping my eye on the Archi of every building ive been in. Putting it in levels adds beauty and realism that make the depth of play all that much deeper.

Is technology there yet that you can scan 2D and 3D images and transfer parts of the design into Max or other programs yet?
Yes Hort : in Max, you can put a scanned pix as a background image in the top/side/front views to edit a spline accurately
That requires practice but it's easy at the end...
