I think I played for a little too long yesterday. I wont even mention how many hours I put in.

What is the deal with the rankings? If I go and click on my name my rank is always some negative number and it just keeps getting worse? What does this rank mean?

Yeah... I don't know what that negative "rank" number refers to... maybe something about your number of deaths?

I think the "ranking" to pay attention to is that you are ranked #72 of all players on the server which --I think-- is pretty DARN good.

I was ranked around #90 for the longest time but have cut back on my play time... since then, I have fallen to around #150 :( BUT--- there are 3200 players in our database so 150 is OK by me though my ego would love to be in the top 30.

As many I respect here have also indicated-- I just play for fun--- I am by no means anywhere near a statistically great player, apparently-- at least not compared to a lot of players on this server... I'm glad that several of the regulars see me as a good team player... honestly I am having more fun 1) in the "I've got your back mode" and 2) tracking down our flag and returning it than in capping it myself (must be my frail old nervous system).

I will say that all the play on this server has really improved my game,,, whenever I can't get in here, I play on other servers and routinely kick butt. I played Slain's "Powerslave" on another server last night, capped the flag 6 out of 7 times, scored 132 points and got plenty of "cheater" comments:eek:
Then came back to this server and was strictly middle of the pack: averaging 30 points a game (about the tenth best of the 20 players. I capped only 3 flags in 4 games.

I've owned up to the fact that the combo of: my age, my reaction time, my set-up, my average ping on this server-- which is 313 as of last night despite cable!?!?!, (the server where I really kicked it I was fortunate to be pinging around 90) and the quantity of my play means I will only be so good...

Well the thing about today was that I was really into the whole team spirit thing. I think it was contagious. The team spirit i mean ..not my rash.

Once I started saying "I've got your back","Hang in there" and "Whose got my mac n cheese" my teammates seemed to respond better by replying with "Roger That", "You got point" and "What the hell are you talking about?".

I did a buttload of covering the flag carrier too.

And the best part of playing today was that I didnt really mind getting fragged all of that much. Once I started taking the game less serious I actually started doing better and getting alot more luckier

"Rank" is a very misleading term. Rank = Frags - Deaths - Suicides.

I'm at -1438 and counting. That means I've died (either by my own hand, or someone else's) 1,438 times more than I've killed people. Sad. And yet, I continue to play. I don't get it.

I think what I've learned most here is: Reading and responding to other players! Its an art in itself..once learned you can use it anywhere. I also go elsewhere ( when the server is full ) and find I am a better player and can get those players to "team play" too. I may never be a more "skilled" player and I'm having so much fun here I don't care :) Go Stealth & Mikey.
