My draft is tonight for a league with some RL friends, anyone else hitting up the fantasy grid iron this year? It's only my second year attempting, last year i got stomped (not prepared and late to draft day...and not taking it serously at all. I took Ed McCaffrey and Mike Alstott for being the Great White Hope's of non-QB offensive players :))
I'm quite peeved actually, last year i took Anquan Boldin after game 1, when he went off. I put my faith in the rookie and he was my BOY last year, picking up the slack that Terrel Owens so disgustingly droped. I was looking forward to stealing Boldin again in round like 3 this year, putting my faith in the growing talent of a rookie (he was going to be my Franchise fantasy player!) but now he's hurt and out till week 9 or 10.
I may roll the rookie dice again with Fitzgerald, also of Arizona.
anyone? bueller?

Yub, a few friends and I do a free Yahoo league every year. Think this is our 5th year or so running it. Anyhow, only sleeper I can think of immediately is Griffin, the RB for Denver (I think?). He's the next Barry Sanders. ;)
Last year I was 8th or so overall, then I won the consolation playoffs. Being an idiot optimist, I chose Moulds and Bledsoe.....and they bombed hardcore. Don't know how I ended up in 5th overall, but hey, maybe this year will be better. =D

I've won yahoo leauges several times. Think I'd better get rid of Grammatica.

tomlinson - rb
Stud, best back in the draft.
curtis martin - rb
Pick up LaMont Jordan, Martin doesn't have much gas left in the tank.
vick or trent green (depending on vicks health) - qb
Vick sux... like McNabb he is a FF flop. Avoid unless he falls late in the draft. Don't get me wrong, he could do well for you but most likely he'll just throw a bunch of interceptions and then get hurt. Best QB's are Hasselbeck, Green, Cullpepper, McNair and of course Manning.
derek mason
Great pick. I picked him up for the third year in a row. He's the most underrated FF WR.
chris chambers
Risky considering the offense and the recent addition of Marty Booker to the Miami offense.
jimmy galloway
Boom or bust player... but likely to be a bust.
marcus pollard
Overrated. Best TE's (outside of the obvious picks) are Alge Crumpler, Kellen Winslow and Jason Witten.
martin grammatica
He's a great kicker but doesn't kick enough field goals which makes him overrated. Draft someone who will kick 30+ field goals like Matt Stover or John Kasay.
tampa bay defense
Good pick but watch out for a drop off in production this year. They lost several key players and with their schedule, their production from a fantasy perspective could drop off a lot. Look for a backup defense that plays against a number of bad offensive units. Rookie QB always = Bad offense.
bench warmers:
green/vick depending
Bench Vick unless he starts living up to the hype.
ron gardner
Him or Galloway is a toss up.
tyrone wheatley
Make sure to get Justin Fargas for insurance.
ron dayne (i hear good things...)
I hear good things too. I passed on him though cause I've been hearing good things and seeing bad things since his rookie year.
reggie williams
pittsburgh defense
Another good D.
i want to pick up Anquan Boldin in a few weeks, hold him till hes healthy. i love that boy :)
If I had advice to give someone pre-draft it would be two words - Chris Brown. If he's not on a team already (which he should be) get him.
Two more words - Although I'm sure he's gone as well, Duce Staley.

If Grammissaca continues with low and bad kicks, Gruden will replace him. It looks like the guy has lost it. I usually start with 2 defenses and 2 kickers, then drop 1 of each after the bye weeks and pick up whatever is available in position players. Vick is a big ?. I had him last year, but could not release him. Some new yahoo rule. Certain players can't be released. I'll always try and draft a stud QB and WR. RB's usually get hurt, TE's produce very little, A great defense and K can make all the difference. I replaced Grammatica with GB's Longwell.

The Buc's D should be pretty good. Lynch gone is good. Kelly back is good. Sapp's best years are behind him, see ya. Simeon Rice is a freak. On "O" the rookie WR Clayton has played very well in pre season and should be starting.

Well, looking at their schedule they won't be too bad. They have 2 games against Atlanta and New Orleans as well as one game each against Chicago and Arizona... all of which should yield some easy turnovers. Other than that, they face some stiff offenses so if I were Idle I would rotate in Pittsburg's D when the Bucs are up against good ball-control offenses like Seattle, Saint Louis and Carolina.

i worked with what i had, as the 2 pick i got the boon that is LT, and then the bust that is 10 picks before my next round.
I went with Galloway because it looks as if Mccardell is leaving the bucs, so galloway should get some more tosses with a rookie and the geriactic Brown behind him.
i took my TE fairly late, as all the good TEs (read as: tony gonzalez) were gone already. I had him last year, he was solid. Exactly what you expect from a non-gonzalez tight end...a few numbers, a TD every 2-3 games.
As far as dayne goes, i think he may finally live up to the potential. He won't put up the big numbers, as he'll be running a two-prong back offense with barber, but all throgh preseason hes been putting up comperable numbers to barber on less carries....hes never done that before. Hes benched now, if he lives up to the hype i'll keep him, if not i'll drop him for a backup TE or boldin
vick is currently benched, green is my starter. My plan is exactly what you said, keep vick, watch him. if he starts to produce like he did when he first hit the league, he can put up insane numbers. when he is on his game, he IS the atlanta offense.
i had my reservations about the somewhat aging TB defense...but baltimore was gone, and my league leader is a die hard TB fan. And i just like to piss him off :)

Griffin is a risk as long as Garrison Hearst is around.
Make sure you get Chris Brown and Andre Johnson.

Looks like you're hurting at RB but everything is subjective. It really depends on how many teams are in the league and how many players are on a roster and how many players at each position start. I have a friend who brags about his team every year (compared to mine) but they are in different leagues. Mine is a 12 team league with 16 man rosters. His is an 8 man league with only 10 man rosters. Big difference. If he joined my league, he would probably get pwned because talent is thin. In his league, everyone has a guy like Derrick Mason as a 2nd reciever! In my league, a really good 2nd reciever might be someone like Laverneous Coles or Plexico Burris.

Fantasy Football Tip: If he's available, pick up RB Lamar Gordon now.
Lamar Gordon, RB STL
News: According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins completed a trade with the St. Louis Rams for reserve running back Lamar Gordon. Terms of the deal were not known.
Analysis: This deal makes a lot of sense. Gordon had lost his No. 2 job with the Rams to rookie Steven Jackson. Meanwhile, Miami was searching for a capable back since Travis Minor, Sammy Morris and Leonard Henry failed to impress this preseason. Gordon now will be given the opportunity to start in Miami and his Fantasy value gets a huge spike.
