A tough one I know. And you can only list one. None of this "can't decide so I'll list five" vacillation allowed. Maybe not even the theme itself, but a song that you instantly know where it's from and why. Like maybe the evil fanfare played when Darth Vader appears. Please no modern cross marketing like an established rock/pop band doing a soundtrack piece. :p

Stargate :D

DO YOU?!?! do you know???!! :weird:
Damn jo0 2 H3LL KM!
you always come out with mega tough Ethical questions that could fray the very moral fiber of our souls. Nah....maybe not......maybe i just can't think of just 1 and you make me actually work and follow "guide-lines". Either way .......DAMN jo0 2 H3LL!![/charltonHeston] :p

now, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  .....
Ok.if it has to be only one than i gotta go with the music that plays when Rocky beats Apollo in the second film and Micky comes out to hug him after he says he loves Adriane. No matter how many times i watch that sh*t i get that stupid lump in my throat and i feel like a little b*tch.
Ok , there ya go.....i "opened up" and you now know that demigod gets choked up at the end of a Rocky movie.I am man enough to admit it.Thats my favorite theme and i'm sticking with it. I say good day sir! :D

It's not from a movie, but it is from television and completely original.

Terminator 2 had a great theme. I don't know if I'd say it's the best -- aside from the facts that there are plenty of movies I'm probably forgetting, and that my answer will likely change depending on what day you ask me -- but it's the first thing that came to mind.

Hmm... dunno my tastes vary so widly that my favourites are constantly subject to change. Besides you know most of my favourites anyway [i.e. the clichéd ones like Godfather, Imperial March, Terminator 2, I could go on]

But I'll be different and post one that isn't strictly speaking my favourite but is always up there among the greats:

Akira Kurosawa's Kagemusha... the main theme... lush :)

Spirited Away

The Star Wars theme will always have a special place in my heart. :)

That's the classical great theme music.

WEll, maybe not "best," but having been re-used for so many other movie trailers and still not lost it's charm, I'll nominate :
"The Rocketeer"
