XIII skills

At the end of the game you get new skills.
But how can you use the skills?

Uhhhhh.....
New game? I've had some games work like that, but you typically have to beat the game and keep it running, then start a new game.

Thats what i tryed.
But the new skills didnt show up in the skill menu.
