Let's hope so. With absolutely no information coming from Valve, a summer/autumn release date wouldn't surprise me.

Damn, it looks like GameStop knew something. We'll just have to make do with UT2004 until the summer. :D
Excerpted from “Half-Life 2 sets a date; Developer sets new release date after hackers steal game's source code. (http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/02/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/index.htm)” by Chris Morris, Director of Content Development, CNN/Money, February 3, 2004
While still shying away from giving a firm date, Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing, told me the company "is currently targeting this summer for the completion of Half-Life 2".

Valve does not plan to reveal any additional information until the time surrounding the E3 trade show, where the game will once again be shown this year. E3 will be held in Los Angeles May 12-14.

No- not according to the designers:

Does this mean we won't see a Counter-Strike 2?

"No, of course you will. We've started the rought planning for the next Counter-Strike, something we won't start the development of before we've all had a loooooong vacation."

Excerpted from “NOVEMBER RELEASE "EXTREMELY LIKELY" AS HALF-LIFE 2 SUBMITTED FOR CERTIFICATION; BBFC in possession of Valve's game to slap on an age rating. Surely this means it's done. Doesn't it? (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/r/?page=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/news/news_story.php(que)id=110641)” By Stuart Bishop, Computer and Video Games, Friday 15th October 2004, 16:50
Valve Software's Half-Life 2 has been submitted to the BBFC for certification, we've learnt this afternoon, news which adds credence to recent rumours that Vivendi is shortly to announce that the hotly anticipated first-person shooter sequel has finally 'gone gold'.

Speaking under strict conditions of anonymity, an industry insider squealed earlier informing us that "as far as Vivendi is concerned, the game [Half-Life 2] is finished" before saying that the title had been passed to PEGI (Pan European Games Information age rating system) for classification, which in turn passed the sequel to the BBFC for certification.

The industry insider added that a November release is now looking "extremely likely".

A BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) spokesperson has confirmed with us within the last few minutes that the government body is indeed in possession of Half-Life 2. However, they could only add at this stage that the first-person shooter is "under evaluation", as far as certification is concerned.

And what, you're no doubt wondering, does Vivendi have to say about all this? Well, actually so are we at the moment. We'd like to report, but at the time of going to press the publisher remained unavailable for comment. Blast their eyes.Excerpted from “Rumor Control: Half-Life 2 gold (for real) … (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/10/15/news_6110731.html)” By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot, POSTED: 10/15/04 06:20 PM PST
Rumor #1: Half-Life 2 is gold. Really. No foolin'. Honest.

Source: If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

The official story: Both VU Games and Valve declined comment.

What we heard: Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piñata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from a locally based source that "the piñata has been broken." Further evidence of the game's completion came in a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.
The stars are now mostly in alignment once again …
