And I'll start..all of this is from the demo as my Unreal 2 CDs haven't arrived in the mail yet..
------
Using the sprint button during a dodge helps you dodge further. While you are in the air during a sprint-dodge, if you jump (ie do a jetpack boost) you can fly much further - especially if you're the light Ranger person.
The Ranger's grenade alt-fire launches a smoke grenade which can be realllly helpful if you're trying to hack a door and think enemies may be coming through - often they'll just run right by while you finish the work. It's great in the sniper area (XMP-Garden) if you're leaving with an artifact as pursuers won't be able to see if you left through the right or left teleporters. Don't underestimate it..combined with a quick boost-dodge jump it can save your @$$. :D
Auto-turrets are slow to lock on; it's not too hard to keep moving and jump out of their range of vision long enough to get behind them and blow them up.
Your vehicles respawn when blown up - I'll blow up any Raptors I see on the way to the enemy base in hopes one will be there by the time I grab an artifact - I can take their car and leave in a hurry.
If someone's in a manned-turret and you want to take them out, shoot at the ball thingie in the little room (at least for me, no player shows up - may be a glitch) with a grenade or something strong.
The Raptor (small grinder car) can go up some pretty steep slopes - to keep control you may want to keep it slow, but it'll go. It tends to spin out when you try to turbo it onto a slanted surface (or it lands off-kilter) which can get you killed if you're trying to make a quick getaway. In the demo map (XMP-Garden) it's possible to get the car onto the roof of either base directly above the garage doors (left side is easier in each base as you approach) - there are teleporters near by that can get you in and out of the artifact room quickly assuming nobody's a)blocked off the teleporters with forcefields or b)booby-trapped them with mines or something equally lame.
I think I've primed the pump; what do other people have? Especially with the other classes I don't use?

For ranger its often best to use shock lance secondary, if they are still in it will take them out in 1 hit, and lets face it grenade ammo is much more valuable than shock lance ammo.

Just make sure you dont go slow with someone else in it around the normal circuit, there is only 1 thing worse than bad drivers, and thats slow drivers :p
Oh I seem to have cut off your smoke gren thing by accident, and well, smoke grenades are good but they aint foolproof. Often you can guess where the people are and hit em with a sniper rifle or even better - a rocket. But lets face it most of the time you will be safe :)

Oh right - yes I always use shocklance first when proper - against stationary targets because it's so slow.
And yeah, the smarter players may guess there's someone in the fog or go for a look..
Something else - it's possible to move while hacking something - you have to stay within hacking range and keep your reticle centered on the object, but you can sidle around deploy points, etc to keep an eye on potential attackers or some similar.

I found that reloading and/or switching to a short range weapon (flame thrower) to be a smart thing to do should anybody object to me hacking their generator/door/etc. Again, doing these things is allowed while hacking.

yeah i think thats a good one
also keep a medic and technitian with you on base assaults if you are the gunner you have the fire power they have healing and repairing
also if you are low on power "use" on turrets and walls deployed by your team to get rid of them (or in the case of walls turn off)

Yeah since I usually play ranger I switch to grenade launcher usually when hacking as that is my close range weapon. Although I often find myself switching to shock lance when I'm actually in as there are often turrets in there.
But to be honest I usually prefer to slip in via the teleporters, its much quicker and more efficient in most cases.
[edit] as you may have noticed I have only played demo so far and hence dont know what the other maps are like accesability-wise.

ok a few dos and donts
dont - put 10 turrets near the enemy spawn points
1 its lame
2 it drains your power stopping u capturing the relics
dont - put walls around the spawn points either as people can just jump over them again a waste of power
do - hack all the door keypads (stops the enemy usin the doors) until the hack them again of course
do - heal/repair teammates Y DOES NO ONE DO THIS?

Don't listen to eZ when he says "Wait in the car". :p
here's a good tip for xmp-garden how to win in 30 seconds (or so).
just get you and someone else in the raptor and head for the enemy base (may stop for energy if necessary), enter one of the side-tunnels, hack the pannel, get the artifacts, drive back (preferably one of the sideways). hopefully your team has gotten the node online, so drive into the base and win. most people are to stupid to get a defense that early in the game.
i did this like 5 times in a row, and the opposing team didn't learn a goddam thing. :D

Yeah..I've noticed that too. I pretty much won't do it unless the other team does it to me... :hammer:

1> More than one person can hack a doorway/powerstation/spawnpoint to speed the process up
2> If you travel in pairs/teams with a Ranger/medic its VERY easy to just wait until all enemies are dead and revive each other then the Ranger/medic can 'repair' the others and drop medpacks for himself before moving on. Without a Ranger/medic you're pretty much going to have to rely on fighting only near buildings/tunnels with the medical stations.
3> If you want a good way to defend yourself leaving the base, make sure you're a tech and have a gunner nearby, get him to stand there and keep 'repairing' you (ie, giving you more weapons). Keep dropping both types of turrets and being 'repaired' until you have a small army around you (2-3 of each) then pick them all up. On your way into the enemy base make sure you leave them facing both directions to cover you as you leave. If they're not destroyed when you are on your way out they will most likely be destroyed soon enough so they pose less of an energy threat than leaving stuff to protect spawn points.
4> While leaving autoturrets and fences around spawn points can be wasteful (unless the fence is to protect from spawnkilling) leaving defensive systems around Power stations is often a good idea.
5> For those that didn't play Unreal2, if you walk up to a friendly energy fence and hit the 'use' button while standing before it, it will turn green allowing you to pass through without disabling it. If you're on the run and time it right you can slow down not much longer than it takes to dodge again and still pass through.
6> For those rangers that haven't figured it out yet, using next/previous weapon while ZOOMED in with the sniper rifle will step back & forth between 10 levels of zoom.
Also, by far the worst camping move I've experienced to date was 2 enemy 'gunners' laying a million landmines in their base immediately surrounding their artifact node. As soon as they lay a few they just 'repair' each other (give each other more weaps) and drop more, repeating this until someone enters the artifact room, at which point they immediately shoot the ground nearby with a rocket and blow the entire room up. Even with minimal life they can keep reviving each other and filling up their supply of landmines nearly indefinately if they're intent on camping. I've been on teams several times that controlled entire maps and yet we were not able to get the final artifact piece due to this maneuver. For added bonus points, as Freakish mentioned people can mine doorways that are teleporters (mirrored) and regular teleporters/doorways.
If only the LegalBot knew the tents he could set up in this one... :p
a good thing is to mine the node. mosr of the time the enemy is to stressed to notice them until it's to late.
another move, that works best in garden and sunsetbeach is to hide on one of the platforms as gunner, and when you spot an enemy heading for the node launch one of those charring grenades into the node. if the enemy is a tech or sniper they'll probably die by the blast, and if they spot it in time to stop, just launch a few rockets at them. by the time they realise where you are, they'll probably be dead :)

i tried to mine the power supply lost 1000 points because team mates kept going in there :(
try puttin trip mines in strategic locations they explode like a juggernaut shell
just tell ur team u put one there

on XMP-ALCAZAR you can survive the fall from the top. Drive off with the car pointed nose down, then as you see your right sbout to crash get out and use jump jets, its sweet for relic carriers to confuse chasers
phalanx
12-19-2003, 07:08 AM
yeah you can also do that to drop down that area off the side of the bases
Valis

Actually it was nice when I figured out you could use a small burst of jump-jet to break your fall. In Ut2003.U2 XMP one of my biggest annoyances is the way damage gets magnified (compared to UT) with only a small difference in height. A fall that only takes 1 pt of life often surprises me because i only landed on a slightly different part of the terrain when a fall to a spot next to me (perhaps 2-3 feet in distance) can often result in a lot more damage or even death. In UT1 I'm often falling from rediculous heights at tremendous speeds (xloc) and I'm used to not *always* dying... :P
i use to mine everything, and if a teammate steps onto them that's their problem.
i mean i mined the node right in front of a guy, and the next thing he did was to walk right through the node and onto the mines. i mean... :moreconf:
the really silly part is that he got really upset and started shooting at me whenever he saw me. bloody jerk...
phalanx
12-19-2003, 02:49 PM
i pulled a biggie i was shooting a manned turret and a team mate dove the damn juggernaught infront of me and i lost 500 odd points anyway
if a team has put loads of turrets around a power source get a GUNNER to go in there the RL can take care of all the turrets

It maybe is stupid,
but if you are defding something you can set all the forcewalls and the things that shoot.
Then do a suicide and all the things you placed stay, but you have new gear :D

if you are a gunner
you can just throw an ammo pack infront of you and get all your ammo back

To chat use mirc or msn or something.
A game is to game, not to chat!
maybe, but atleast people could say hello...

Tonight while playing I saw something neat but couldn't find out how to do it. The map was the one with the desert floor and broken curvy road up top above the clouds (I forgot the name) - you can fall all the way down from the top to the desert below and not die if you jump from a vehicle. The player was using the Ranger character and from the exit of the base (where everything opens up) on the top route, he seemed to do a wall-jump as his character jumped up along the wall and then wayy up into the sky and landed about where the forcefield comes across the road. I don't think this was the standard dodge-jump as it was pretty high and took him further. He was going to show me after but I got tired of waiting for him to show on his server. Anyone heard of/seen this move?

I found my answer.. http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=124359
It's really just a wall dodge followed by the boost jump - I suck and can hardly do it but *once* managed to get like in the gif in the thread linked above.

I have to try that ... ive seen some players do it...
i know how to wall dodge but not on a straight wall
it as to be on a angle like ut
phalanx

u can wall dodge???
anyway a few more dos and donts
DONT use gas grenades in combat unless u are sure no team mates are nearby i am fed up of gettin close to an enemy to place a rocket in thier head and suddenly a musterd coloured fog appears and damages me and i get sniped GRR
DONT go down into energy sourse which your team own
1 u dont need to go there
2 u end up destroying mines tripmines which were put there for the enemy to blow up :)
dont group up better spread out then gettin a whole force gettin wiped out by a well placed rocket (or juggernaught shell  )
dont revive mid combat - causes you to be not killing the person killing you and may end up with them getting you and the guy u are trying to revive
dont stay in vehicles that are on fire leave them alone
dont place walls in outside areas (wastes power) the enemy can jump over them
dont mine the artifact nodes or hackable deploy points (your team my stand on them stopping a winning cap or a spawn)
do's
do use boosters
do place turrets
do mine enemy deploy ponts which u cant take
do help hack things (dunno how many times a tech has ran past me going after the energy source when i am takin the deploy point)
deploy point is MORE important then the energy source if you dont take the deploy point enemy can spawn and retake energy source)
a bit on what to do with vehicles
move enemy vehicles to your base (damage them so they are on fire) this prevents more vehicles spawning for them (do destroy one if someone wants to use them to bring back an artifact desroy your own if damaged sevearly so the respawn again back at your base
