Server 4 mappage

I'm re-building the S4 map list right now, so if any of you jump into game and wonder why there's only a small list of maps available for vote - that's why. ;)

Though the server's vanilla CTF, it's CUSTOM vanilla CTF for the most part. :D

There are ~200 maps in vote, but they sit out for quite awhile after being played to ensure variety over the course of the week (yes, week).

If any maps are missing redirects or causing problems lemme know..ditto if you think of maps that should go in or maps that are there that suck.

Ideally I'd be able to have mapvote randomize map display..but I don't think it can do that (or I totally missed the option), so to keep people from choosing maps only at the top of the list (as many tend to do now..leading to round-the-clock 6h marathons :rolleyes: ) there's a large period maps sit out - 50 games (there are 202 or so maps in the list). This should be ok because in theory all the maps appeal to people..this just might encourage people to try maps they've forgotten about or don't immediately think of. And 50 is just a number to start with, if it's way too high we can lower it - but it's there to force some variety into the server.


I just threw 'week' out there as a random guesstimate..how long a map really sits out is dependant on how much traffic S4 gets.

I hope you'll please add my latest map, CTF-Dagnys-Tubes-Of-Spam, to the list. People have enjoyed it at other servers but it hasn't received an audience here at the Playground yet.

It is already running mapvote 304.

I've outlined before my reasons for leaving out spam tubes, but let me also add this: I haven't heard anyone in our community asking to play it besides you Dagny, so there doesn't seem to be much interest in the map. Perhaps your next one..find a happy medium between spam tubes and big ass. :)

Although the variety of maps played encouraged by the 50 game sitout is probably a good thing, it makes it much harder to perform online map testing on S4. I need to fix my computer so I can host multiplayer games... heh...

It's alright, not a big issue. I don't do much testing on S4 anyways.

If you really did want to change it, though, you might make it so that a mapper could always vote for their own maps...

Yeah..we're trying to figure out a way to keep things nice for mappers. A few simple ideas are being bounced around right now...

If anyone can code a solution (heck making an admin option for mapvote to simply randomize the list everyone votes on might even do it) we can give it a try.

What is up with server #4? Hardly anyone ever plays on it. If no one likes it why not mirror server #1 and let more people play?

Right now we're in a state of flux..pretty soon though we'll be able to decide how to continue with S4 - hopefully it'll begin seeing more use soon as well. :)
