I didn't see this posted here.Excerpted from Half-Life 2 Not Going to be Delayed? (http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/news/31360.shtml) by Aki Sugawara, GamePro, 10-OCT-03
By now, you’re probably just as much excited to hear the latest Half-Life 2 gossip as hearing the latest rumors between J.Lo and Ben. But like the Bennifer drama, you can’t help but tune in. EB Games has stated that the release date for Half-Life 2 has been pushed up to November 27, 2003. However, they have said that this date is tenative and “likely to change a few times.” It’s nevertheless a good sign that we won’t have to wait till April of 2004. We will give you the details of the release as they come, so stay in tuned. I also got this.Hello from EBgames.com!

On Tuesday of this week we sent the email below to all of our customers who pre-ordered Half-Life 2. We are writing you today to keep you as up to date as possible about the status of this highly anticipated game. We have now moved our projected release date back up to November 27, 2003. Please keep in mind that this date is very tentative and is likely to change a few times before it starts shipping.

As always, we will keep you updated with any changes in the release date as we receive news about Half-Life 2.

Here's another speculative story, they all point at EBgames.com as the source for the November 27 date.Excerpted from H-L 2 Back on a November Release? (http://www.megagames.com/news/html/pc/h-l2backonanovemberrelease.shtml), MegaGames.com, Monday October 13, 2003
While everyone is discussing the details of the source code theft from Valve another little drama is playing itself out in the background, one which has to do with the new release date for Half-Life 2. While Vivendi Universal, through their CEO, Christophe Ramboz, claimed last week that the game had now moved back to an April 2004 release, EBGames lists the game as becoming available on November 27. Exactly how EBGames would have such a precise date remains a mystery, fueled by Valve's resistance to publicizing a revised release date.

Finally, another source.Excerpted from Half Life 2: Delay in replying to delay delayed; Mr Vivendi "talking out of his butt" - a sort of miracle (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=12017) By INQUIRER staff (mailto:newsdesk@theinquirer.net): Thursday 09 October 2003, 16:26, The Inquirer, UK
OUR SOURCES continue to reiterate that Half Life 2 is not delayed, and that, in rather pungent language, the Vivendi guy that reckoned that it would be pushed back to April next year "was talking out of his butt".

While Valve still hasn't made any official statement, there is a quote by Doug Lombardi over at halflife.org (http://www.halflife.org/) saying Valve is still assessing the "effects of the attack".

That was in response to a question specifically asking if Half Life 2 is postponed until April next year.

Our source added that the Vivendi mister hadn't even talked to Valve for around a year or so, and decided to give his own take on the affair, as the saga continues.

Wonder where that Valve official statement is? µSee also: Reports of Half Life further delay mistaken?; It will ship at Yuletide, it appears (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11984) By INQUIRER staff (mailto:newsdesk@theinquirer.net): Tuesday 07 October 2003, 19:24, The Inquirer, UK

However, the GameSpy staff suggest caution.Excerpted from Half-Life 2: Updated Details (http://www.gamespydaily.com/news/fullstory.asp?id=5363) By GameSpy Staff, October 9
One of the bad things about the Internet is that everyone has an opinion, or a secret source inside your favorite company (sometimes real, sometimes imagined). The Enquirer (who sometimes likes to deal with rumors with a mixed measure of success) has written up two stories citing a "sources close to Valve" as saying that despite everything going on right now, Half-Life 2 will make its holiday 2003 date. Take that as a rumor for now, because only Valve really has the answer to the million dollar question: Holiday 2003 or April 2004 for Half-Life 2?

this would not be the first time EB games has speculated on a release date w/o substantial info:/

I think they and other retailers just report what the publishers tell them. On the hand, what got me really intrigued was when I got the second message from EBgames.com just a few days after the first one. The first one told me what I had heard that the release would be delayed until April 2004, but the second reset the date to late November 2003. That's what provoked me to see if there were any news items about it. Initially the only ones I found referred back to EBgames.com. The Inquirer seems to be a second source. Who knows they may well be talking to the same person inside of Valve.

Whenever it comes out-- I'm getting it, I don't care if MP is screwed because of hacks, etc... with looks this good... it promises to be worth hours of just wandering around in.
