Johnny Depp is considering the part of Willy Wonka in the upcoming Tim Burton film, "Charlie and the Chocolate factory". If that gets made it should be pretty goofy.

Quite a role. Johnny could do it, as could Robin Williams, and possibly a few others.. but not many. The original rocked.. Tim Burton CAN rock.. could be fun!

Hope the re-make is pretty true to the original, with only a few add-ons.

I like the original.

I hope they make it take place after the original... after charlie takes over maybe. Since it is called "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" it is a possibility... though I am guessing it will just be remake.

I'd rather see soemthing new, a sequel to the original, than see the original redone.

Johnny Depp is too good looking to be Willy. I kinda like SIAB's idea of making it after Charlie took over, but I think most people wouldn't like it because it wouldn't fit what they thought happened afterwards. Personally, Chris Farley could have been Charlie after he took over the factory and he could just freak out the oompaloompas and swim naked in the chocolate river....oh wait I'm off topic. Not sure who would make a good Willy...Robin Williams is too hyper to do it...Gene WIlder was perfect because he was funny, but also calm too, Robin Williams doesn't 'do' calm.

Was it Johnny Depp I heard that is also begging for the role of Ozzy in his Biography movie?

There is no need to remake Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. Although likely better than a J-Lo/B-Af remake of Cassablanca (thank the baby jesus these two will likely never show up in a film together after Jersey Girl next summer.)

I think Burton kind of lost it after Ed Wood.

OK... I -might- buy Depp in the role, especially if it follows SIAB's suggestion. Otherwise they should leave that classic alone, IMO>

Wednesday 20th August 2003: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Update:
Johnny Depp is to meet for a third time with director Tim Burton for Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory, the Warner Bros adaptation of the Roald Dahl
classic in which he has been offered the role of Willy Wonka. If all goes
well, filming could start next year.

And: (http://movies.go.com/news/2003/5/burtoncharlie052203.html)
The reason it's taken so long to bring this newer version to the screen has partly to do with Dahl's dissatisfaction with the original 1971 adaptation, which starred Gene Wilder, making his estate leery of jumping quickly at another take on it. But Burton's involvement has gotten things rolling again — apparently, he was the Dahl estate's first choice.

Wonder who they'll pick to play Veruca Salt?

And who could play Mr. Slugworth? Lance Henriksen? Christopher Lloyd? Crispin Glover?

I hope they get a bunch of no-names. Otherwise they just overshadow the film. Having Jack Albertson and Wilder was cool but the kids were one-off wonders. Hope they can do that again. Then again, the kid they hired as Anakin in Star Wars Phantom Menace was a no-name and he was terrible. :dunno:

While Johnny depp would be good in the role, robin williams would be better, and to go one further......Arnie.
Hes getting picked for everything else these days, why not an Austrian Willy Wonka.

I agree w/ Hort, there aren't a lot of kids out there these days that could pull off the originals. Picture that kid from Sixth Sense as Charlie :tsk: I see chocolate

I dunno. I think Robin Williams is just hyper-annoying. Not a good choice at all.

Plus he's played lonley disturbed characters who kill people in recent films. I think J. Depp is a good choice.

Saw a bit about Richard Dreyfus on TV last night, and for some reason this thread popped into my mind. He might make a good Wonka

Bump* This re-make should never be done. I protest it!!!! How can you re-make a classic like WWCF. That movie is flawless!! Again, there is nothing wrong with it. Just cause hollywood is lacking ideas, doesnt mean that they should ruin the image of a classic.

Anyways, This was in the plans a while back, I heard that Nicholas Cage would be doing the part of wonka. *shaking my head down* unless they changed it!!
