I have been trying to get UT to run on my wifes new G4 and am having problems. I had to move my others systems to the office due to 6 month old baby taking over. This is the newer 933 mhz G4 with the Geforce 4 mx and 1.2 gigs of ram. I have played UT on much older macs and it worked better than this one. I am only able to select rave for card support? I tried the opengl from the disk, but get strange error (can't remember off hand, still at work).
Long story short frame rate is horrible at any rez and for some reason I can't get on Stealth with that machine, but others servers fine (ut pure?). Horton if you are out there give me the goods.

Well-- for starters--

Are you running OSX? I've heard very mixed reviews about UT under OSX because it has to basically emulate it under the "classic/OS9 environment."

If OS9 you might need to make sure you have the latest OpenGL for OS9: http://www.apple.com/opengl/

If OS 9:
were you ever playing UT on this machine earlier and this just started happening? If you have ANY older versions of UT Pure in your UT System folder, TOSS THEM OUT. The latest version should cache fine when you attempt to get into the server. If not-- download the files and install them manually. Get them here: http://www.unreal2ctf.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1588

I've found that the new version of UT Pure makes it VERY difficult to play on different servers, it doesn't like seeing conflicting versions of the files in your cache or system. This really just became a problem with the latest version.

Regarding the new machines-- yours come with the Radeon 7500? I wouldn't doubt that the new generation stuff for Mac might confound UT, hence why you get the Rave only choice. I'm not enough of a tech to decipher all of this but between DV and I we can hopefully straighten this out. Let me know what the graphic error was. When I bought my new G4 Apple Tech Support was very helpful on solving numerous 2nd party issues--try them if all else fails.

And more bad news-- NONE of the former companies that helped bring UT to the Mac are owning up to the SLIGHTEST desire to port Unreal2 to the Mac. From what I can see in the specs of U2-- it may leave Macs out in the cold altogether. Let's hope somebody is just keeping it VERY quiet.

Oh... and Return to Castle Wolfenstein is coming for Mac...:)

I have tried both X (there is a OSX preview that runs natively under X http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/6369) and 9.2.2. The video card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX. I will work on it later tonight with opengl and post the error.

I got it - well the framerate part. OS 9.2.2 had both ATI and Nvidia extensions, so I disabled the ATI ones and it's on, but I can only get 1024x768? Not a big deal, but standard rez on the 22' is 1600x1024. One thing I can say is that gaming on a 22' will give you motion sickness.

Got it to connect last night by manually installing the pure files.
