Wow, already? That wasn't a particularly long run for 5. :S
This sounds cool though
Vertex paint
Extending its already-comprehensive set of Vertex Paint capabilities, 3ds max 6 software gives Game Artists and Level Editors an easy to use solution for painting and editing color and custom attribute information onto any of the 99 channels of information available per vertex using a host of tools.
Interactively resize brushes, apply new coloring (or tint existing levels), and paint game-specific attributes right onto the model (such as surface friction and damage values). The Vertex Paint Modifier now functions as a "Paint Layer" - multiple layers can be applied, supporting many of the Photoshop-style blending modes analogous to digital painting.
Vertex Colour Opacity is also animatable, allowing users to change the opacity of a Vertex Paint Layer over time. Game artists can now explore combinations of additive radiosity lighting interactively, in a manner that lets them see how this effect will be implemented in-game.

Haha, oh man, 3d studio max is a beast of a program... :loopy:
I respect anyone who can understand that program inside and out.

i'm trying to understand Gmax so i can build a character model, but i was just wondering, how do you import this character model into UT or UT2k3?

I think someone mentioned it to you already in another post, but joining up at 3d modelling forums like polycount and the like is a start, or perhaps ask in the UT2003 design forum.
This threads just discussing what's new in version 6.

Oh I love 3ds Max. Really goes well with UED3. If I got some complex brush that needs fixing I export it to Max fix it up and send it back to UED3. You can actually make entire maps in 3dsMax now and export whole thing to UED3.
Here's latest thing I'm working on in Max

Heheh. Like the fish! :D
Are you using max 5? I remember getting a demo at a trade fair last year and seeing the nice new water animation engine. Saw some really cool effects with paddles/balls being dropped into water.
Is the picture something for a map or something else?

It's what you make in a tutorial at www.3dbuzz.com. Yes, I am using Max 5.

yeah, I have no clue on how to import one into 2k3. I know 3dBuzz made a Maya modeling a low poly character, and I guess they are suppose to show how to do it in future VTM's. Then a karma vtm comes out first. :loopy: So I don't know what they are doing anymore.
