There's a few maps with these words in the name....but you know the one...the one with redeemer valley....I was playing it and there seems to be a problem with the map.

At first it was a burning sensation, but the next time the map came up in rotation my head blew up. My innards became outtards.

It came up once more after that and seven cows pistoned seven nalis as the skybox turned to blood...I don't know what happened after that.

I think what Engine is trying to say is that AnthonyB's hugeass maps (Domain, Armada) are hugeass bores. Me agrees.

LOL!. The day I return and I see my map in the spotlight :D.
Armada and Domain are designed for mass player loads 16-32, single player or used with a mutator like zark sniper and Strangelove. Since the average player loads are below 16 players, feel free to remove those 2 maps from the rotation as small player loads can make for boring games on large maps and since UT player numbers are dropping it does not make sense to run large maps.

My smaller maps seem very popular so losing these two is no big deal. Don't worry the sequels for any large maps I do will require that vehicles are supported and most likely will be done in Half-Life2. In fact all my sequels will be for Half-Life 2 or some game like BF1942 :p

Hehe, welcome back (from where?)...I like your smaller maps just fine (some fun routes on the small version of Domain), but Domain on UP1 is always 30 minute flag always gone 6 players camping the enemy flagroom because it is too boring to try to hunt the EFC in a thousand different places especially if they have speed, etc.

I think Armada is a good map. Its not a bore and its fun to play. Its a good size, looks nice and I've never had trouble finding some one to frag.

Yeah

We just played it online (when E9 left) and had a decent game without many long flag stand-offs.

The smaller maps are better, though. :D

Yah, on second thought , you are right about that...I probably dislike it for other reasons...like forgetting where each portal goes and how it orients you...

Thx. But it is a well known fact that UT players in general detest large maps with 3 or more routes. UT players require constant action, and without vehicles, large maps with different routes tend to bog down gameplay and bore quickly. They would much rather have CTF-Thorns size maps where 6 players will fill up the map and there will be constant spamming :) .

The Ideal CTF map probably accomodates between 6-16 players and will facilitate constant, even intense action with the minimum of those number of players.

Large maps or complex maps and UT do not mix, unless you are running some kind of mutators ;)

So go ahead and remove those maps. Graphically they are very nice but nowhere near the level as what I've produced with UT2k3 editor and those levels are relatively small :D

I agree that large maps don't do well in UT, but I disagree about the number of routes.

433 is one of the more popular maps around, it is also my favorite map, and it has quite a few routes, lots if you can lift jump and piston jump well. Same with B3LostMarines.

But yes, constant action is needed.

When I refer to the number of routes, I am talking about large(Like Domain1a's size) maps that have more than 3 routes causing small player loads to become too spread out, or allowing the flag carrier to hide indefinitely. Look at CTF-Times - it only has two major routes but the number of interconnections and the base layout can slow matches to a crawl even with +16 players :D

Small and medium size maps would be wise to accomodate a fair number interconnected routes ... :)

Holy crap, you're AnthonyB???!!!

I never even knew! I always wondered why everyone was always asking for your comments, or you were reviewing maps since I never saw anything you'd made. lol

Well, I guess I can redeem myself by saying I love your small 3: Sunrise, Day of Fury and 1Day.

Ya learn somethin' new everyday, I guess. :)

Edit: More importantly, why the hell aren't you mapping for UT anymore!!! :p

Hey while were at it, lets dump civil war out of rotation too. I mean cmon, after I played that map three times in a row when the server was stuck on repeat I don't ever want to see it again.
One of the best parts about AnthonyB's maps is the music, imo.

We should make this the official "I don't want that map in my rotation" thread :D.

Anyway I took a pause on mapping for UT because UT2k3 had been announced, and I needed to acquire basic modelling skills in 3dsmax,among other things. Unfortunately UT2k3 turned out just OK but it just wasn't for me and most UT players never moved over to play it, and still have not. So although I created test levels and finished a sequel to one of my levels I never bothered to release it because of lack of players, no ability to protect certain content which I wanted to use for other projects etc...I think I may have found some sort of solution for protection and may release some stuff for UT2k3/ut2k4 when Half-Life2 comes out. Maybe UT2k4 might turn out ok but it has stiff competition from upcoming titles....

I do have some horrible unfinished spam levels for UT that I might release when I get time to fix them up :).

Pfft.. Spam maps R ghey (except Thr0ns.. that one rocks ;) )

No really, I always have, and always will like the big maps. AnthonyB'sDomain, Armada, both ProjectX maps, Times, Warrior, Zeitkind, Ezmerhim, etc, etc, etc. Gives you time to think a little for a change instead of just pressing and holding the 'fire' button. They also require teamwork in that no matter how good a single player might be, they can't return their flag from one end of the map and still cap at the other end. :D

Right. They have to wait 5-10 minutes twiddling their thumbs for someone on their team to return the flag 3 to 4 times. :D

Ezmerhim??? My god man, what have you been ingesting?

gameplay wise I do think that domain 1 is too big. but you can't deny that is is an amazing level in terms of design. very nice, very well made map. except for that damn slope (inside joke :))

I like the 1 day map best, for playing anyway. ironic how the simplest maps are sometimes the best just becuase they are open and action packed.

MagicKingdoms][? ****ya.. loved that one too. 'Course.. the 12-second cap route made for some rather lop-sided games, since not many knew of it. Always good fun watching people trying to kill the Skarj and Warbosses with enforcers though :p

Yes, as a world, it is great and varied...if any server could handle about 20v20 with voicecomm, it might play well.

I like 1-day and I like day of fury as well.

I've played on counterstrike servers with +30 players and people were using voice communication and it was pretty fun. BF1942 is fun with 16-40 or more players. If UT2004 can support 32 players with no big performance issues then it could be interesting and I might be interested. The new Onslaught game type would have maps at least the size of ProjectX2 or Domain1a and even with vehicles UT players might not like it if player numbers are below 16 players because action pace would be about 3 times slower than in UT.

Half-Life2 is rumoured to support at least 32 players with vehicles and have better netcode than HL1/counterstrike supposedly. Big maps that are bot pathed properly are great for offline play with a lot of bots, but I would not even consider building a large map for the UT series again unless I know that the average server will have at least 16 players minimum at 3AM in the morning :D
