i just played a friend's copy of planetside for a little while. from what i've seen, it seems pretty awesome, but i haven't had a chance to really get into it.

before i buy a copy, and essentially commit to the $13 a month subscription fee, i was wondering if anyone here has played it much cuz i'd like to hear some opinions before jumping in.

I played it in the beta... played it for free.... quit after 2 weeks. I didn't try out the "lattice" system that supposedly encouraged more fighting, but it was too boring for my tastes.

Think bf1942 but more futuristic, no end goal, a lot more specialized (meaning, you get exp and choose what to specialize in) which means a lot more "oh ****, I can't take that out, I run now".

It is in the grey area of rpg and fps... granted it leans a lot more towards fps, but I don't think fps players can play without an immediate goal (i.e., winning a round by capping 5 flags). RPG players won't like it because there isn't much variety and aren't quests or items really. It is in a dangerous middle area that I don't think many will enjoy... at least I didn't.

Yeah, I got bored with it too. I need straight death and mayhem for an enjoyable gaming experience. :D

i concur. i too found it boring once the novelty wore off which was very soon. I wouldn't recommend it. Get BF1942 if you're looking for the massive online FPS exp or another MMORPG for the RPG feel.

While I actually liked the game, after the beta ended I felt there just wasn't enough content to warrant a $13.00 fee. Hell, that's more than every MMORPG to date and they have MUCH more content. No idea what Sony was thinking would justify that fee...

I think everquest is 12.95 a month.

There will be a package deal coming out upon the release of everquest2, for 21.95 you'll get access to everquests 1 and 2, planetside, all the crappy station games, and i think one more big title...i forget which. (NOT star wars galaxies...unfortunently)



and planetside was good, but like they said...not 13 bucks a month good. BF1942 is a comperable game in terms of play experiance and it's free.

WOW -Idol ..i thought for sure you and F7 would be getting PlanetSide :( I was thinking about getting PS on saturday at the Best Buy ......but now im not so sure !!

i did reall ylike it, but when i came to the conclusion i didn't like it 13 dollars a month's worth...i lost interest. I didn't play much at all for the last 3 weeks or so of beta.

Same here. It was a fun game...just doesn't warrant #13 a month.

After the fun I've been having playing BF1942 with Ink, EH, Radio, Billy, SuperDank, and others...even if they lowered Planetside to $5 a month I wouldn't play. :p

Well dammit... I bought it 3 days ago and now I'm hooked....

I enjoy it alot....infiltrator suit, knive, and amp pistol with advanced hacking.

I play on Markov, Vanu and with RL friends with the voice chat communication on. It's hilarious.

But so far the 30 day trial period has my soul...

It's a descent game... i'm sure they'll incorporate alot more.... all online games get an update or 2 in it's entire lifespan.

I'll be sticking with it for awhile.
