Sounds good (http://www.unrealplayground.com/review.php?id=544).

When I added another bot to the mix, he instantly used an adrenalin combo to go invisible, and introduced Mr Mini gun to the hapless bot. Bwa ha ha ha ha.

82?.....wait a sec....this is a standard set up....what the hell is going on? Using standard meshes to good effect...but still 82.
sorry freakish just being mean...but still, this is not a 82.

Hmm. I think I will error on the Blito side with this.
Square unimaginative. Pure white lights. Antiportals on doors, wtf?

This is a 60 map. At the bottom most area you have no way up but back up the walkway you just came down. How about a lift?
How about some sound, oh yeah that was mentioned in the review. Um. Nothing wasn't square, numerous dead ends. Nothing for the bots to get caught up on. Not bad but not 82.

Well there go the few friends I had. Bye bye.

Why not give it Lruce. Looks alot like a map he just finished reviewing at 51. Actually in some areas more effort was put into Meep.

Now this has gone on about long enough. Get together and set some standards so the damn reviews are consistant. Some maps are under rated and some over rated, and not by a few points but by a good many.

-Has any one seen my happy pills. I seem to misplaced them.

Remember, a Review i make is just my opinion an the map, and i really liked this map. When you look at a map like CTF-Raw, to compare it too, it is in the same style, and gameplay, and thats what bumps up the scores.
Architecture and assortments dont weigh to high on the chart, its all about gameplay, and this map is really fun to play.

And i stand by my score.
I think its that good.

No offense or anything personal LS. I respect you and your review.

That said the IMO is wearing thin on the erratic reviews. It is not your opinion anymore it is a formal review for a respected site. I think some of you have taken a little too much of an artisic license on the reviews. In many ways I really don't care what your opinion is, I want to know how the specifics of the map match up to the DE and Epic maps. Don't point out other user maps, compare the map to the pro-maps. So compared to Grendle this map is superior? Compared to Cursed3 this is a better map? Better layout, flow, construction, more fun, superior lighting and so on.
That is the bar and that is what has to be kept in mind. I don't care how much fun the reviewer had if the map clearly doesn't match up to the pro-maps to wich it should be directly compared.

More or less I get tired of reviews that read like this:
"Great map, had great time, was lots of fun. Rated 60"
"Needs some work, could have been better, missing somethings here and there. Rated 80"

You see where I am coming from on this one?

(This goes back to a number of other reviews by other reviewers too. I am just in a bad mood and this happened to be the straw that broke the camels back)

Hm... I have to sort of second that... not to insult you of course, Lord S - you know we luuuv you. ;)

It is a good map, but definitely lower quality than other 80+ DM maps (Victoria, Nirvana][) - you did rate it somewhat high IMO. Anyway, it's not the end of the world... if that's your rating, that's your rating, cool. If you're willing to go back and run through the scores again, that'd be even cooler. For example, to me, alone the fact that there are only 3 guns would have a huge impact on the item placement and enjoyment scores.

As for you Widowmaker: "get together and get some standards"... ? Trust me, we have pretty damn strict review standards. We spend many an hour extra on reviews trying to stick to them, so please don't spit on the entire team like that, kthx. What other maps are "overrated by a good many" points? We need concrete examples here.

Not spitting on anyone. Just trying not to single out LS. He is a stnd up guy, you all are. However just because I respect you does not mean I will see things your way. As for concrete evidence I will tomorrow go through find the reviews and post my gripes and in detail explanations of why "I" don't agree with the score. I'd do it now but it is currently 1 AM. Sleep time.

No offense taken.

When i review a map i have a sort of "ritual" that i use.
I load up the map, and wander around looking at the detail, pick up locations, hidden areas etc etc.

Then i add the suggested amount of bots, commit suicide, viewclass pawn and showdebug to see what the bots are thinking. After watching for a while,i play for 20 or so minutes. Then, i load up the map in the editor, to see if there is anything i've missed eg hidden rooms, secret areas, and check all the tags, sounds, pathing etc.
Then i play the map again woth the selected bots on masterful for a few rounds of up to 30 kills. After that, i can judge if the player count is OK or not, and i put in what i think it should be, and play for a while again.
After that, i normally have a pretty good idea of what to write up, and what scores things deserve.

So i don't take reviewing lightly, maybe i get lost in the moment, yes, i'm probably guilty, but can you tell me this is a bad map.
The gameplay alone rules it very highly.

It's a lot of fun to play, but the lack of varied gameplay and the simplistic construction really dragged it down. I'm not gonna touch the issue of scores, but I was a little disappointed after downloading...

OK, after reading this a few times, fiddling with the score calculator, and pondering the meaning of life, i will review the scores.

I'm not to big to admit i have probably scored this map too high.
Although i don't believe by much.

When you look at the weighing system for map scoring, if the enjoyment, bots and flow are all great, it comes in as close to 60% alone, and this map clearly excelled in those areas.

I'm going to alter my "ritual" as to include reviewing a mpa, then not touching it for 2 days, then going back to it to see if i still feel the same way.
In conclusion - thanks for keeping us honest Widowmaker, your right about a lot of things, and its all been stored in my brain for consideration when reviewing future maps.

BTW, have you got a map in the review queue.....

Hehe. You wouldn't take out any frustration on any one of my maps would you? /jk

No map in the que. I have all I wanted out of the reviews that I have had. Moving on to bigger and better things. On the verge of going pro.

This has nothing to do with me or any of my maps. I am just concerned that the reviews are becoming less consistant. As a tool to some mappers that could cause them confusion.

Just a note: That first screenie in the review has a pretty big texture misalignment :moreconf:

Hey, its no problems at all.
Honesty is what keeps people together, and sometimes you have to be blunt to say what you mean.

:D

Have you got any maps in the queue then Blito.......

im in agreement.
its a fun map to play and stuff, but i'd say its a far cry from victoria and nirvana, which both scored very near to this map.

Hortons Who has given me some great advice on the scores, and the new score will be up soon.

Sorry for the drama

I'm so late with this reply, anyway.

Played the map and is slightly let down. But if this is the author's first map, he deserve some compliment for successfully building a tri-atrium map that works.
It's using the simple ideas, to connect by the wrist with corridors, and he also effectively add potential z-axis combat. Chokepoints aren't dull at all, he used a lot of tried and proven formula effectively, the weapons of choice are suitable, and is actually pretty refreshing experience from the more hardcore maps.
What need to be work on is the flow. The general flow is ok, it's capable of taking players around in circles, but some meshes are getting in the way especially the beam at the shock atrium.
I don't think the railings are suitable either. He should have use trims, or at least lower the railings by 16 units so it's possible to use dodge jump over if he desire some obstecles.
Plus side is it's simple, quite fun, and runs well. The door movers is also a good way to reduce combo spam. So it works.
