View Full Version : DM-CaveDigger beta4
Hey long time no see... ;)
I pushed a lot on the - meshes, lights , ambient sounds, item placement, bot paths and scenery to make this map how it looks and plays now. I going to love that kinda erie ambiance and so tried to give the map more of a dark and mystic site but still silent an meditative.
Let me know your thoughts.
download it right here...

Looks better, but please avoid naming your additional packages like "MySounds" or anything as general: if all mappers do like you, this will become a real mess to store custom maps... It's better to name the package following the title of the map or, even better, to include the sounds in MyLevel if you don't have a lot of sounds
As for the map itself: like I said above, it really looks better now and the new sounds really add to the atmosphere. What I didn't like was the spider cobwebs: the setting presents no life, vegetation or insects, so I don't thnk that spiders can live in there and, sorry, but this looks slightly lame too, especially in comparison with all the things you have put together so well... Overally, the atmosphere in your map is original and almost magical: these cobwebs just look out of place IMO
Otherwise, I've just one complaint concerning the Lightning Gun platform which looks too short (I almost felt from it just after the teleporter...): maybe you should make it slightly larger or the exit of the teleporter deeper
Good work so far anyway: you should really think about releasing it now :)

Thanks for the tip! But how do I include the sound package into myLevel?

Well thanks. :) I agree that the spiderwebs do look kinda lame. But was just trying to add anything that gives the setting a touch of "life", heh. May should have added some vegatation, insects too... - Ah well, I think I'll get rid of them anyway...

:) Yeah, I'll give the platform 'bit more space... thanks for the tip.

Thank you for the nice feedback! Hmm wondering why you're pushing me to release it now? - But that gives me a little extra-boost (got myself asking if anyone ever would like to see it released, regarding the few feedback I got...:) to finish and release the map now.

The group and name can be whatever you want. When you save your map, the sound (or whatever) is saved in the .ut2 file. You can save textures, meshes, scripts, etc. this way.
If you are prompted to save the MyLevel package, don't. This can cause some headaches, and is redundant anyway.

I just downloaded the map - it looked different from the screenshot you had. This has to be one map that makes me have vertigo - Man the sound with the near falls makes me quite parranoid of the edges . Good "feel" achieved here, I like the sky scenery too , lends itself to the theme well. I agree with the "need more space on exit ledge- (especially with that vertigo feeling) " I like the teleported emitter - great.
