OMG this is one hell of a bad ass space shooter game. The graphics are simply breath taking, the story is damn captivating and the gameplay is extreme! Also, once you finish the story line, you can continue playing to get newer/better ships, trade between nations and find new planets. This gives the game an extremely high replay value.
I highly suggest this game to anyone who's willing to take a break from UT.
Only bad part: made by microsoft :dunno:

Just read the review in the latest Aussie PC mag (PCpowerplay).
It looks like a wicked game, visually stunning.

But it will never replace Freespace 2!
I liked the game and finished it, however there were a few gripes I had.
-In the Single Player campaign, other than following the main plot religiously, there is nothing to do. No side quests, no alternate paths. The jobs are all the same: either kill someone or take cargo from point A to point B. Very boring.
I have tried the game in Multiplayer mode with a few people and it is major fun. We all worked together to get some mid-range ships, then it was every man for himself. As we each tried to raise more money to get better equipment and ships, we would hijack each other out of trade lanes and mass fighting would ensue.
On a dedicated server where people play at set times, this game could be much fun. :)
Based on the merits of Singleplayer alone though, I would not recommend purchasing this game. Wait for the bargain bin.

Agreed, F7. I loved where the story was going, with Sulu at the helm, but was very dissapointed when it got there. What happened to the story started by the intro video?
I may play it sometime again just to try for a Rheinland Heavy Fighter....
P.S. I posted a mini-review awhile ago:

GREAT TRADING LANE! SHORT AND LOTSA MONEY!!!!!
Planet 1: Planet Hamburg in the System Hamburg. Buy Rheinland Fregither, can store 250 units of cargo. Then buy 250 diamonds sold at around 430. Move two systems up into Liberty space to Texas.
Planet 2: Planet Houston in the System Texas. Land there with your freighter and sell the diamonds for 980 bucks or so. Quick and easy cash. Good for lvling up in the later stages without actually having to fight. Then fill up the frieghter with consumer goods for $9 bucks a piece. Fly back to Hamburg and sell it all for 45 bucks a piece.
Step 3: Repeat and repeat!!!!
Of course, the freighter itself cost 170,000 bucks, so you had better have the cash for it.
Some of my friends like to move the diamonds from New Berlin to New Tokyo or some other Japanese planet in the north. There's a larger profit margin, but I dont think it's worth is as good when compared to mine. Travelling time is alot shorter, plus any random attacks on the LIBERTY side of this trading route are useless lvl 2 fighters.

It's pretty cool--- I've not played many games beyond UT, 2k3 and Deus Ex. This is a nice mix of Deus Ex narrative and space shooter. Not bad.

That's a nice short one! There are some longer ones where you can earn $600 profit per unit both ways, That's 150,000 per one way trip, but they take awhile. I'm gonna try your shorter one!
P.S. If you want a Rheinland freighter earlier in the game, then go north of Leeds to Planet Harris in Tau 31. Cool planet. :p
There's also a mid-game trde route from Detroit Munitions to Battleship Myoko in Shikoku. Earn a drone and kick butt!

Actually i'm not sure, but after calculations, I would prefer the New Berlin to New Tokyo diamond trade route better, although it is more dangerous.
I leeched some info during play that one of the best routes is in Kusari, between New Tokyo and the system above it. The route is good mainly because you are pretty safe from pirate attacks. HOWEVER, you must make sure you are not hostile with the Golden Cythsaum whatever it is. You buy luxury consumer goods in New Tokyo planet or the station above new tokyo planet for 600-800 bucks, then sell it at a station in the system above that belongs to GC. It is not on the map, but it is approximately 30km away from the jump gate to the LEFT. Look for it in the nebula and dock with it and sell it for 1300 or so. Then you buy Cardamine (read: CRACK), and then travel back to New Tokyo and sell it in the station above New Tokyo. Make sure that you move quickly to avoid being scanned when the police is around. Not sure how much it sells for, but I heard it is a great safe trading route.
The Rheinland Heavy Fighter is only 200,000 bucks. I heard there is another fighter that belongs to one of the pirate factions in Omicron Alpha that can hold LVL 10 weapons for 2 million bucks. However, you of course must make sure your friendly with that faction. LVL 10 weapons can only be found in a jump hole leading to the Nomads by fighting them.

I played the demo and this game and it seemed pretty fun. It seemed like a lot of action was taking place in spite of me rather than because of me.
Then I picked up a mission from Pittsburgh engineering which said, go kill some scavengers. I went and they tore me to shreds.
Yikes.

***SPOILERS****
So after mission 4, the bounty hunters are all hunting me. So you go buy a new ship and everything is peachy. But then I do mission number 5 and the bounty hunters are all over my ass again. I have nothing against taking out a few bounty hunters. I hate those bastards now.
But, when you take the trade lane into an area, and your in the middle of a molly bounty hunter battle, and suddenly you have 9 ships swarming you, that isn't fun.
