I just downloaded this today and played a few games out of curiosity.

WOW!!!!!

It's like BF1942 on crack. Pretty much all the vehicles are much faster and the new vehicles just kick ass. You can fly an Apache helicopter which just plain rocks. A10 Thunderbolt Tankdestroyers, F16s, MIG-29s, Humvees, M1 Abrams Battletanks, etc.

New weapons are sweet as well. You can play as either the US or Iraq (the mod is centered around the Gulf Crisis). M16-A2, M-249 SAW (Engineers get this :D ), MP5 for Medics, SMAW's for Antitank personnel, and versions of AK-47s and other Russian weaponry for the Iraqis.

Anyway I highly recommend it as it gives a fun and much faster paced change to BF1942.

You can get it at the Desert Combat homepage (http://www.desertcombat.com).

What you will need:
-The DC 2.0 full install. (about 83MB)
-The DC 2.5 patch to make it functionable with BF1942 v1.3 (about 1MB)
-The DC Road to Rome patch if you want to play it on RTR maps. (about 1MB)

The link to the X-gamers network is broken, and there is no mirror link in the link :dunno:

Hmmm I downloaded it from Fileplanet but I just tried the X-Gamer link and it worked ok.

If you can't get it anywhere, hop on the IRC channel: irc.progameplayer.com #unrealplayground and I will send it to you.

I just installed this ( I dont play 1942 as much as I used to since that steaming pile of 1.3 patch ruined the game balance) and it rocks!

Much faster paced...and you can actually shoot down planes!

F7, have you figured out how to fly the damn AH66? I always crash...I think I need a dead-zone for my rudder axis.

hehe it's one tough vehicle to fly. I actually prefer mouse/keyboard, it gives me a smoother flight, but I do have trouble with the Apache.

What I do know:

Press forward or throttle up to speed up. If you leave the stick or the mouse stationary, you will just hover in place.

To move forward, aim the nose of the helicoptor down and throttle up. Reverse: aim the nose up.

Strafe or turn left will do just that; turn the helicoptor. Mouselook left/right makes like a strafing effect.

It's pretty hard to get used to. I practiced in a single player game and still can't master it, so I just stick to planes and tanks. :p

No wonder the Germans lost.

The Canadians weren't wearing uniforms on the beachheads.

(Airlea, you look cold...)
