i think many of those are before my time maybe. I like diamond sword but I really hate JewelOfTheWarlord. The bases are way to easy to defend with 20 people and it always seemed to have all 10 people on defense.

Not to impose Ghosty, but do u know where I could dl those maps? I looked around one night for Chasm, but couldn't find it on misc websites.

I'd like to try 'em out, if only vs. bots offline like a tool.

I think you can DL them all here...

http://nalicity.beyondunreal.com

If you can't find one of them I'll send you a link to the ClanUMH website (still under construction so not entirely public yet) where they are available in our downloads section (which does work).

Try playing it with C.H.U.D, Freakish or HOCANADA... no flag is safe! :D

You are insane... CTF-Chasm is the best map ever made for 20 players! :p

BTW: HUMAN is in the process of creating a new verson of Chasm... I believe named CTF-ChasmLE. This will be exactly like the old one only it will be correctly zoned. w00t!!!

I think Enemy is a good map, except for the horrific bomb drop event that makes it so laggy.

Vedict is 14% in your favor.

Of the 7 listed, we've put DiamondSwordCE into the vote list.

Reasons for this center primarily on gameplay (and a bit on our votemaster's medication status :p); many of the rejected maps may be great fun in clan-oriented matches (your viewpoing GoW), but toss 20 people who don't know each other and only sporadically work together into a map and it's just not going to work. Some of the maps are too large and defense-friendly while others are too small and cramped.

But shouldn't we get permission from the authors of those maps first?

Thanks for putting DiamondSwordCE on. :)

However, I think you should know that I am using the viewpoint of a 20 player game setting when recommending these maps. Over at UnrealMafia most these were some of the most heavily voted-for maps. When compared to many of spamfest maps in the voting list here, the gameplay on the maps listed above would seem to many to be superb. Hell, CTF-Chasm is arguably one of the top 10 CTF maps for 16-20 players ever made and is a favorite of almost everyone who has played it. CTF-JewelOfTheWarlord, while somewhat small is a great change-of-pace map. This map is also a favorite among hard core CTF players and it makes other 'change-of-pace' maps such as CTF-W00tabulous look like really bad spamfests. Who all is involved in making these decisions? Is there any diversity in the playing styles among this group? Inquiring minds want to know...

;)

An inquiring mind,

GoW.

When we make decisions concerning mapvote, a few of us usually weigh in on things - rarely does one person add/remove maps from the vote on a whim (although MedicatedMikey IS the votemaster and sneaks in personal favorites on occasion..b3redneckwoody anyone? I *love* it but apparently nobody else does).

This time, for the most part, people agreed with me - here are the comments I gave them:

-Jewel is fun with strangelove, but without it's just a long map with over-campable bases and either no cover or no room to maneuver.

-Chasm is a bigger map that's very similar to slain's savingv2. It's a defense-friendly map which makes for long drawn out games when it's so far between bases. On server 1 people will complain about being lost and probably snipe or something.

-NoonRaid..you all probably have played this one. I dunno how well it'd do with 20; I just think it's way dated.

-MarsCanyon - HELL NO. even with strangelove the map takes
forever. It's impossibly spread out and very hard to get anywhere with the flag. We considered this one a long time ago anyway..

-Enemyatthegates - No; many people complain about slowdowns when the bombs drop.

-Oldskool wouldn't be bad with small crowds, but with 10v10 and the cramped halls and flak prevalence it's just not going to be any fun.

The difference between the lack of gameplay in spammy maps like w00tabulous and some of those listed above is that at least the spamminess of w00tabulous is over in about 5 minutes. Oldskool would take much longer because you have to go so much further with the flag all the while being assaulted with flak in tight quarters. I can guarantee that a match on MarsCanyon would go the full half hour, every time. Chasm would probably go similarly here (remember we don't have strangelove for you to run to the roof and fly back with) and depending on how defense-oriented a team is, jewel might go similarly.

Again, the above are just my opinions based on playing the game on a pub server for way longer than I'd like to admit.

Inquiring minds want to know...

And now they do.

Yeah, call me a lamer. But the first time I played that map with SL and figured out the bases were just a few seconds apart (when flying) it was always fun to make about 5 caps in a minute or so and end the level :)

Yeah, I know. That is lame. But hey, what can I say. I am a n00b lamer

I did that too.. :D It's all about getting up top in the middle where that SL spawns and running around until someone comes so you can jet off without wasting fuel. mwaha! And the particular game I was in, it seemed everyone knew to fly up and over so the flags were constantly gone.

MarsCanyon, yeah, I can see that one... it's been a really long time since I played that one so fine, nix it.

JewelOfTheWarlord, well it's a lot better than W00tspamulous but some people don't like semi-closed maps so... that's fine. Nix it too if you so desire. :(

In fact the only one I have to heavily disagree with your summary on is CTF-Chasm. Yes, the base is somewhat defendable but with even a little bit of teamwork and with the use of proper flag routes, it's fairly easy to cap on. In fact, rarely does a match of CTF-Chasm finish because of the time limit and I can promise that if I were in the match it won't be time running out that finishes it. I'm not talking about using the Strangelove either, I don't even like to use the even if it were available because you become instant sniper bait by doing so. Anyway, I think that 90% of the people who have played Chasm would agree with me here and if they don't, you won't have to worry about it getting voted in the rotation. I just think you guys should give it a chance and bring one of our favorite maps back to the PlayGround. ;)

Now for a few CTF-Chasm testimonials... :D

The design of Chasm is pretty damn cool. The guy who made it really knew a lot about CTF (unlike those lets-frag-in-a-big-box mappers).

Now if someone would just update the map with zone labels, it would be PERFECT.

Yeah Chasm does ro><ors the casbah! er... wait a second....

No seriously the games may be drawn out on Chasm but I find that they are very intense and satisfying not boring. And really 20 people will shrink this map down to size. I dunno I think we should at least give it a try.

D sword mite get a lil hardcore with 20 people...I think it would be good as long as no one piston camps. Chasm ROCKS nice map, they might even make it a ladder map with a lil work....ex) maybe a bit dif weapon placement, put the pu's in the middle and set up some new spawnpoints. Noonraid is also one of my all time favs and id like to see it up there. Those others mentioned i havent heard of..

I will have to go back and search for some maps tonight that we used to play all the time on some other servers. There are some really great, fun maps out there that have long been forgotten and I'm sure would be a hit here.

Just had to add this...

1.) Once a map is released for download, it's pretty much public domain to serve it. Now were you modifying said map, or something of the sort, then yes, it would be SOP to ask the authur.

2.) I've never met a mapper that didn't want his maps seen and played.

Granted, this is my first post, and my opinion is most likely worth VERY little, but here goes.

Noon Raid, Chasm, and DiamondSwordCE are all incredible maps, JewelOfTheWarlored however is one of my very least favorites.

$.02 worth
