Mac Users-- please note:
The anti-cheat software that many of the best servers now employ, "UTPure"
Does not like to download to Mac versions of UT. You'll hang up when trying to connect to the game server. You'll need to download it in advance.
Looks like there was a version change today. As soon as I dl'd it, things work fine-. BTW you do not need to install the VA files. Just put the other three into your UT System folder.
You can get it here:

Mikey/Stealth: As long as this continues to be a problem. Could you post the zip file under the "Files" section?

grrrrr... it freakin' didn't work for me.
same problems have existed for me for about the last week or so when in the playground:
auto connect as maps rotate only works about 50% of the time
relics are not visible in the user display
occasional audio distortion on a couple new maps in rotation
horton, if you have any ideas let me know...
betas always suck!, vodka

Your not alone dv.
Auto reconnects are seldom for me, as well as others, so they say.
No relic display is caused by the latest UTPure anticheat software that is used on the Playground. That was in another thread somewhere.
Audio distortion I havent had, sure its map specific? Play the same map in question against bots. That should narrow it down to connection or map.

ah, thanks recon... glad to know i'm not the only one in tech/tweak hell at the moment.
all the problems have made play frustrating lately... on top of all the formentioned glitches, occassionaly the game freezes momentarily until the cd drive spins up again... grrrrr... makes for less than desirable combat scenarios, especially with the quality of players on this server; you pause, you die!
after cleaning out the cache, optimizing and restarting, the audio distortion seems to have dissappeared.

I was having a big problem with the autoconnects as well until.....
I turned off UsePrecaching in Preferences|Rendering|Direct3D
Now I don't have that 'Precaching' crap and I almost never have problems connecting again between maps, and I connect significantly faster. And to be honest with you I can't tell a difference in the gameplay.

Vodka-- disc spinning---
take the CD-ROM out--- if you installed it to your Mac you don't need it. At least that is what I do. I got tired of the spin-down/up thing too-- I happened to take the CD out to watch a DVD and forgot to put it back in. So I clicked on the launcher and off it went.-- The next day I realized the ROM was in and it worked fine.
/me slaps head and says DOH!
I believe that, for PC users they can copy the disc image and run from their hard drive. The Mac should install this way by default.
(Not the case with all games-- Riven/Myst for instance needs to access the disc).
Regarding reconnect-- yah-- I get that too and that is different the the UTPure issue, as Recon points out-- I just click reconnect (I bound my F7 key to "reconnect") and I alwasy make it back in.

The 436 patch (actaully..I think the 432 was the first to do this) eliminates the CD check for us PCers. No CD necessary. :)

True, but you need the original CD to install the latest patch (436)

No..a (backup) copy will work just fine. I mean..you need a CD (or image) to install it in the first place. At the same time you ought to do the latest patch while the CD is still at hand (in case someone else is holding your CD for safekeeping).

very glad to say that i've fixed the mess with all of your help, thanks again to everyone for the suggestions. recon saw me backup and killin' today... glad to have had your back again bro.
for anyone else having the same problems with their mac...
1. download any regularily used files
2. clean out your cache, save what you need, kill what you don't... as it turned out, the audio distortion was the result of a sound package that came off of hogmans server.... something like "SLV2"... for whatever reason, that package is poison to my system.
3. after checking the files that didn't install from the ut goye cd, i discovered close to 400 mb of textures and soundfiles. i copyed all that garbage to the monster, and now i have major improvements in play... no cd needed, using higher resolution and much faster connections with maybe 9 out of 10 with autoconnect
4. defrag and optimize as ut spills chaos into you master directory and database files when you play online and crash

Glad to hear that,dv.
Thanx MM, your precache deal was my issue. Makes sense I guess. While its trying to cache the map, it takes longer than the timeout for connection.
