I will admit that Stephen King's short stories are phenomenal.

Also, Edgar Allan Poe's short stories are great, if you like the macabre genre.

Any of the Grimm's Fairy Tales. There are a bunch I read in high school, but can't remember the names right now =(. I'll try to find out.....

I write mostly short stories right now, trying to do a novel...

Got 45 pages so far.... go me! :D
